Dramatis Personnae

What is Dramatis Personnae?

Dramatis Personnae is Latin for “characters in a play”. At the beginning of almost every Shakespearean play, a Dramatis Personnae will introduce readers to the many characters of the play. This section will give you an idea of who the various characters of the play are and what roles they play within the larger narrative. The Dramatis Personnae also provide readers with a guide to the many relationships that exist throughout the play; an especially welcome list for something like A Midsummer Nights Dream, a play where magic messes with established relationships on a consistent bases. It is important to keep track of the ever-changing relationships while reading, so visiting this page will provide you with a list of the major characters as they interact with each other throughout the play.
