Summative Assignment

Congratulations! You’ve read the play, and made it through the bulk of the course. This page will detail the two choices for your summative assignment. Like you read on the home page, we want you to have as much freedom as possible in this course, which is why we’ve developed two different options for you to choose between for your final assignment, which will synthesize everything that you’ve learned throughout the course. Rubrics for each assignment option are included below, for download. These options are a little bit different than your regular garden variety assignments, so we hope you have a little bit of fun with them!

Summative Assignment Option One – Spotify Playlist

The first option for your summative assignment is to create a Spotify playlist. Spotify is available online through your internet browser or you can download the software onto your preferred devices. So why are we asking you to explore Spotify? We want you to curate a list of songs to compliment A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Before choosing your songs, your should figure out what your main inspriations will be. Are you creating the list based on the narrative progression, a certain characters journey, or a specified theme? Make sure you include a short introductory portion that lays out what inspired your playlist (theme, character, etc.), and why you chose it. You’ll curate a playlist of 8-10 songs (about an album’s length) and create justifications in connection to each of your chosen songs. The justifications should explain the connections and justify your choices; evidence should always be included to prove your connections. Be creative with your choices; you can inclue any singer from any genre as long as it is appropriate and the choices can be justified. You’ll submit your assignment by creating a blogpost including your written portion, and your playlist embedded.

Summative Assignment Option Two – Infographic

The second option that you have for your summative assignment, is to create an infographic, detailing a theme or character from the play. You can choose to include an in-depth analysis of a character, or an in-depth break down of a theme, the way you interpret it. There are several different ways that you can set up your infographic; you can include images, quotes, links, even your own artwork. Alongside your infographic, you will need to include a brief introduction explaining why you chose the theme/character that you did, as well as a couple of paragraphs articulating why you chose to include different elements of your infographic. You can used whatever image creation software you like/feel most comfortable with, but here are some options you can use to create your infographic:

  • Piktochart — sign up using your email address!
  • Adobe Spark — sign up for the free option, using your email address!
  • Canva — sign up as a student under the education tab, with your email address!
  • BeFunky — sign up using your email address!
  • Visme — sign up for the free option, using your email address!
  • Snappa — sign up for the free option, using your email address!
  • Infogram — sign up using your email address!
  • Easelly — sign up using your email address!

When you’ve completed your assignment, you will create a blogpost including your infographic and your written portion.
